Bank Scheme Fails, Solon Man Charged With Theft

The information in this report is from the Solon Police Department. An arrest does not mean a conviction

In January, a Solon man told police that he found 72 unauthorized transactions on his bank account totalling nearly $1,500.

But after an investigation and discussions with the bank, believe the man -- Gregory H. Plank, 49, of Timber Lane -- made it all up.

Plank was arrested Feb. 7 and charged with falsification and theft, both first-degree misdemeanors, according to a police report.

Plank filed a police report on Jan. 20 saying that someone accessed his Charter One bank account and made the charges.

But an investigation revealed that the charges were made by Plank, according to the police report. The bank had previously refunded more than $818 of the total of $1,473.27 that Plank told police had been stolen.
