Displaced Keithley Instruments Workers Get Federal Help

Sen. Sherrod Brown secured trade adjustment assistance money

workers displaced by the company's decision to send operations to China can now apply for federal aid, according to the Twinsburg Bulletin.

Sen. Sherrod Brown made the announcement July 18 and said trade adjustment assistance for approximately 80 workers is available, the Bulletin reports.

The move and the company released a statement saying, "This decision was reached after lengthy evaluation and analysis of a number of alternatives, and was determined to be in the best interest of Keithley’s long-term competitiveness,"

The transition is expected to move most of Keithley's Solon-based manufacturing jobs to China through mid-2012. It's unclear exactly how many jobs will be moved from the Aurora Road location.

The Trade Adjustment Assistance Program gives money to workers who are displaced or whose hours and wages are reduced because of increased imports.
