Fire Chief: Drought Conditions Make Fireworks Too Dangerous
Solon Fire Chief Bill Shaw said residents should refrain from using fireworks this 4th of July since drought conditions have increased the risk of fire.

Solon Fire Chief Bill Shaw cautioned residents against using fireworks this 4th of July because of fire concerns.
"With everything as dry as it is, the smallest spark can start a fast spreading fire," Shaw said. "We have had fires before from fireworks and now with the heat and lack of rain,Β the conditionsΒ across the areaΒ are of great concern."
Instead, Shaw suggested residents come to the on Independence Day to view the city fireworks display. It begins at dusk on Wednesday.

Dry conditions likely contributed to two fires in Solon on Sunday and Monday. Those fires were caused by discarded smoking materials.
