Postseason! Solon Athletes Compete This Weekend in Wrestling, Swimming and More
A bunch of Solon athletes in a number of sports are competing in postseason tournaments and meets, including some state championships

Some of Solon's brightest Comets will be competing this weekend in their sports' postseason competitions.
Athletes from individual and team sports, from bowling to basketball, will be going for glory this weekend. Here's a rundown:
Swimming and Diving

Divers Doug Karn and Sivan Mills are competing at the State Diving Championship in Canton this weekend. In fact, Karn is diving today.
Swimmers headed to the state meet include Alex Polishchuk, who will compete in 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Also competing in individual events are Mark Lippert in the 500 freestyle and Ryan Carson in the 100 backstroke.

The relay teams competing include: Carson, Polishchuk, Grant Pinchot and Patrick Tippen in the 200 medley; Anna Wong, Kelsey McRill, Dana Lautenschleger and Becca Hoffman in the 200 medley; and Wong, Hoffman, Allison Hoffman and McRill in the 200 freestyle relay.

Gymnastics
The District Gymnastic competition is 10 a.m. Saturday at Riverside High School in Painesville. The girls gymnastic team will be competing after a fourth place finish at the sectional meet.
Also competing as individuals is Olivia Bell and Shaina Harrison. Bell will compete individually in vault, bars, beam and all-around. Harrison will compete individually in the beam.

Hockey
Hockey continues its quest through the state hockey playoffs with a battle against Gilmour at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Kent State Ice Arena. The Comets are the 6th seed in their state qualifying tournament, and Gilmour is the 2nd seed.
If the Comets win, they will take on the winner of Lake Catholic versus Walsh Jesuit next Friday.

Wrestling
There's no tougher district meet in wrestling than the one that will go down in Mentor this weekend.
But the Solon Comets arrive from a position of strength. They won their sectional tournament, and had
The Comets are bringing an impressive squad to the tournament, including four grapplers who won their weight class at the sectional tournament: Brandon Thomson (113 lbs), T.J. Duran (120 lbs), Anthony Collica (145 lbs) and Justin Kresevic (160 lbs).
Solon's other five competitors are: Daniel Clement (106 lbs), Shawn Williams (126 lbs), Anthony Restifo (138 lbs), Brian Hawkens (152 lbs) and Shaquille Moorehouse (182 lbs).

Girls Basketball
The Solon Girls Basketball team is competing in the second round of the Bedford District tournament on Saturday against Garfield Heights.
The game tips off at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Bedford High School.
after defeating East Tech by a 101-17 score. The Comets were led in scoring in that game by Martha Thompson (21 points), Kristen Confroy (16 points), Jaime Gluesing (15 points) and Emily Russell (11 points).

Bowling
Solon's Brandon Mattingly will compete in the bowling district tournament in Kent on Saturday.
Mattingly, a junior at , placed second at the sectional tournament, he bowled a 203, 201, and a 235 for a 639 series. Previously, in the NOC Invitational tournament at Roseland, he bowled a 223, 202, and a 223 for a 648 series.
Mattingly has a 205 average for the season.
