Solon High Poetry Slam To Raise Money To Fight World Hunger

Solon High school's Amnesty International club is hosting a poetry slam Friday night featuring talented poets and performers from Solon.

Come to Solon High School Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and you'll be treated to some talented performers and contribute to a good cause.

The Amnesty International Club and other student groups are hosting the school's first ever Poetry Slam in the high school's lecture hall. It will feature student poets and performers and perhaps a published author.

Tickets are $5 at the door, and proceeds from the event will be donated to the World Food Program and Peruvian Hearts, a group that helps the poor in Peru. There will be food and refreshments, which is included in the ticket price.

"It's looking to be a great event," said Zach Schwartz, one of the event's organizers. "People will get much more than they are expecting. You'll be amazed by the talent at Solon High School."

Schwartz said they have at least 10 talented student performers lined up. The audience will be treated to a variety of performances, incluing some dramatic performance poetry, singing, satire and comedy.
