Solon High Speech & Debate Team Wins State Championship

The Solon High School Speech & Debate also notched four individual state championships.

SOLON, OH — The Solon High Speech & Debate team won the state championship last week.

Solon competed against 79 other schools during the Ohio Speech and Debate Association tournament, which was held in Wooster. The Solon squad notched a combined 862.2 points, putting them 148.68 points ahead of the second place team.

The squad didn't just win the team championship though, Solon also scored four individual state titles and five runners-up trophies. Overall, 21 team members qualified for national competition in Louisville in June.

The team's individual state champions are:

  • Juniors Dev Ahuja and Viresh Mittal
  • Seniors Michelle Park and Harry Sanjeevan

  • Junior Vikram Sundaram
  • Seniors Pinak Chitnis, Mira Atwah, Tyler Murray and Abigail Oresanya

"Congratulations to team coach Dan Ceci and all of the students and their families on these

significant achievements," the Solon Schools said in a statement.
