Solon Home Days Guide 2012: Saturday Events

The Cruisin Solon Home Days Rod & Custom Charity Cruise is the feature event Saturday at Home Days, but that's not all!

The 2012 Solon Home Days has tons of fun activities on tap for residents to enjoy during the four-day festival, which began Thursday and ends Sunday.Β

SATURDAY (Events begin at 2 p.m.)

KIWANIS PANCAKE BREAKFAST

When:Β 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday

What:Β The annual pancake breakfast, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Solon, will be held Saturday morning in the Community Center banquet hall. The breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee. The money raised from the breakfast will go toward the Kiwanis Club of Solon Scholarship fund and other community programs.

Cost:Β $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and underΒ

THE CRUISIN SOLON HOME DAYS ROD & CUSTOM CHARITY CRUISE

When: 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday

What: In what is now an annual t, the Rock N Roll Capital Street Machines and the city of Solon have teamed up to put on a giant custom car show and cruise-in. The plan is to line up hundreds of sweet cars along Portz Parkway and in the community center parking lot and have a car show with music and more.Β 

Traffic Alert: As a result, Portz Parkway will be closed to through traffic from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. The community center will also be closed.

SOLON HOME DAYS RAFFLE CONTINUES

What:Β Tickets for the raffle, organized by the Solon Benevolent Fund, are sold throughout the festival. Daily winners will be drawn, as well as featuring hourly prize packages, including cash prizes. All tickets will be eligible for the grand prize drawing held at 9 p.m. Sunday.

The grand prize is $5,000 cash, a donation from the Davis Automotive Group.

A Good Cause:Β The benevolent fund uses the money raised by the raffle to do good things in the community. The group's mission is to "provide help where the need is presented." The group especially focuses on helping needy children, and has donated more than $100,000 in aid to the needy by working with the city, schools, religious organizations and more.

Cost:Β Tickets are $5 each or $20 for five tickets.

LIVE MUSIC: ASHLEYS ULTRA SOUND

When and Where: 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. at the main stage

LOOK AHEAD: SOLON HOME DAYS PARADE

When: 1 p.m. Sunday

What: This one is self-explanatory, but there's nothing better than a parade to cap off a fun weekend festival. The parade features music, vintage cars, fire engines and more. Of course, candy will be thrown.Β 

Parade Route: The parade will begin at Arthur Road School and head down Arthur Road, turn right on Solon Boulevard. It will head down that road until it gets to Inwood Road, where the parade will turn right. The parade will then turn right on SOM Center Road and finish in front of the Solon Community Park at about 2:30 p.m.
