Stein Mart Closing: Fate of Employees Unclear

Chief Financial Officer Gregory Kleffner said the company always tries to protect its employee's when a store closes by transferring them to other stores and finding other arrangements.

But Kleffner, who did not go into specifics about the store's employees, said it will be difficult to keep everyone when shrinking from three stores in the Cleveland area to two. Stein Mart has stores in Beachwood and Westlake.

In fact, the close proximity of the Beachwood store is part of the reason the Solon location, in the Solon Square shopping plaza on Aurora Road, is closing its doors.

Kleffner did say that the retail chain wants to open other stores in Cleveland, but that the Solon location just wasn't working.
