The boy’s soccer team picked up two wins last week against Normady and Westlake. Β

On Tuesday night where the rain threatened to wash the games out, Mother Nature complied and let the games play on as the host Solon boys’ soccer teams both scored three goals to beat the Normady Invaders.

In the earlier JV game Solon won 3-0 with Max Shulman, Josh Baskind, and Ethan Jezerski scoring goals.

For the varsity, they took a 1-0 lead early in the half on an Orlando Cumberlander goal off a feed from Scotty Welker. The score was still 1-0 when the King brothers got in on the act as Foster King floated a free kick into the box and Johnathan King buried it in the net when the goalie had trouble controlling the ball.

Scotty Welker then capped the scoring off with a goal of his own as he played a free kick just outside of the box by kicking left of the wall and the goalie had no chance to save it. The final score ended up 3-1.Β

On Saturday afternoon, the team used a strong second half to knock Westlake from the ranks of the unbeaten by winning 2-1.

Westlake had taken a 1-0 lead into the half, but two goals in a span of five minutes turned the tide for the Comets very quickly. Andy Lemus scored first off a free kick delivered in the box by Foster King, and then an alert play by Leo Held to save a ball from going out of bounds fooled the Westlake defense that had relaxed and allowed him time to play a ball in to Orlando Cumberlander who found the net with a quick kick in front of the goalie.

The last 20 minutes proved to be a nail biter as Westlake continued to push the ball into the Comet half of the field, but could not score again. The Comets have now run their record to 5-1-1.

In the earlierSaturday game, the JV team also beat Westlake by a score of 2-0. Max Shulman accounted for both scores for the team.

Up next is a Tuesday night battle as the Comets host rival Twinsburg, and Thursday night the team travels to North Royalton to take on the Bears.

For both games, varsity plays at 7pm, JV at 5pm. Hope to see everyone at the game cheering the teams on!
