MLK Day Events Near Stow

Schools and government offices will be closed Monday, so here are some Martin Luther King Day events to enjoy with the family.

To celebrate the work and memory of Martin Luther King Jr., several area organizations are holding events on Jan. 15 and 16. Here's a quick list:

Akron Urban League Breakfast: 7:15 to 9 a.m. at the President's Hall, Akron Urban League, 440 Vernon Odom Blvd., Akron. There will be a breakfast buffet and program with local leaders. The featured speaker is Eric A. Johnson, executive director of the University Park Alliance. The event is free, but tickets must be picked up at the league between now and Jan. 13.

University of Akron: The university will host an activities fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the UA Student Ballroom, 302 Buchtel Hall. Key performances throughout the day include: New Seasons Gospel Choir at 11:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.; Bridietz Drill Team at 12:45 p.m.; and Akron National Pan-Hellenic Council Greeks Stroll at 1:40 p.m.The event is free and open to the public.

Akron-Summit County Library Lecture: This event takes place Jan. 15, in the main branch of the Akron Library, 60 S. High Street. The featured speaker is Darrin Henson. The event is free and open to the public.
