The Lantern, Strongsville High School Newspaper Takes 7 OSMA Awards
Under the direction of Mary Erste, the student-run newspaper has exceeded expectations in just two years.

Strongsville High School English Teacher Mary Erste told Cleveland.com that she thought it would take more time to get the school paper running on all cylinders.
However, The Lantern's staff of 25 exceeded her expectations and not only got things running smoothly, they also took home seven awards from the Ohio Scholastic Media Association (OSMA) Among the awards was third place for Overall Newsmagazine reports Cleveland.com. Rather impressive in just two years.
"We improved tremendously considering last year at OSMA we had two awards," Erste told Cleveland.com. "In January, we sent in examples of our work from the end of the year before through January. We're basically trying to get both feedback on our work and then go to workshops in the fall and spring to learn how to get a little bit better with everything."

The Lantern used to be an online-only publication, but now prints five issues per year. Erste brought to printed version back last year; she felt it was important that her students to see their names in print, have copies for themselves and take ownership of their work. "We are pretty proud of our progress."
