Here are the top three stories in Strongsville today:

  1. The Amherst Police Department reports that the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office requested assistance when deputies spotted a man with an outstanding warrant in a parking lot on Friday morning. Jason Swain, 48 years old, died from a self-inflicted injury in the parking lot of Trinity Evangelical Free Church. Swain had been indicted by a Cuyahoga County grand jury for corrupt activity, telecommunications fraud, and grand theft. (The Chronicle)
  2. Strongsville's Colin Van Rooy has de-committed from the University of Pittsburgh. The three-star offensive lineman announced his recruitment reopening on Twitter. Van Rooy had committed to the University of Pittsburgh back on June 26. It is unclear why he has decided to reopen his recruitment process. (PCHSN)
  3. A Cuyahoga County man has been indicted by a Lorain County grand jury for killing a Strongsville resident in a traffic crash in Columbia Township earlier this year. Kendal Lipke, 31 years old, is now facing aggravated vehicular homicide, DUI, and reckless operation charges. The case has not been assigned to a Common Pleas judge and Lipke is free on bond. Patch deal of the day:

Good knives make all the difference in the kitchen, but you don’t need to overpay for them. Seido Japanese knives are made with strong high-carbon stainless steel (high-carbon knives are more durable and usually more expensive) and have an acute 15-degree angle for a noticeably sharper cutting face (most Western-style knives have edge angles of 25 degrees). For a limited time, Patch readers can get a 5-piece Seido Japanese master knife set for 71 percent off. At just under $70, this chef-quality set is perfect for any home cook and would also make a great gift for the holidays.
