Here are the top three stories in Strongsville today:

  1. Cuyahoga County's unemployment rate is 6.4 percent. The county's unemployment rate is the highest in Ohio. The lowest unemployment rate was in Mercer County with 2.9 percent. According to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, every county's unemployment rate increased last month. (Times-Gazette)
  2. The Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter is celebrating Christmas in July by offering $25 adoption fees. The usual adoption fee is $95. The decreased adoption fees will run until Jul. 31. Every adopted pet is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and has a 2022 dog license. The reduced fees will hopefully clear the kennels. (Cleveland 19)
  3. The Cuyahoga County Healthy Urban Tree Canopy Grant Program has given almost $30,000 to Brooklyn. The funds will be used to plant 49 trees, create a tree inventory, and create a five-year management plan. The city usually invests $10,000 a year to plant trees but has been given additional funds in the last few years by the county. (Cleveland.com)
