Here are the top three stories today in Strongsville:

  1. Strongsville City Schools will be hiring yearlong substitute bus drivers to address the ongoing shortage. The new policy was approved by the district's school board and was introduced after the district committed to hiring yearlong substitute teachers. The district hopes that the new policy is as successful as the policy for yearlong substitute teachers. (Subscription: cleveland.com)
  2. Douglas Smith, a Strongsville dentist, is arguing in court that he is exempt from paying income taxes. According to federal prosecutors, Smith hasn't paid income taxes since 1992. He has been charged with four counts of attempted tax evasion for the years 2004-2012 and 2014-2018. Smith is representing himself. (Subscription: cleveland.com)
  3. The Strongsville Community Business Expo was a resounding success. Hundreds of guests attended the expo which featured over 100 local businesses. The event was held at the Rec Center on Oct. 12. Click for a complete list of businesses that participated in the expo. (City of Strongsville)

  • Cleveland native Dan Watt is making his debut as a film director and producer with "Everybody Dance," a documentary that showcases the journeys of six kids with different disabilities as they prepare for a dance recital. The film was released for streaming on Friday, Oct. 7 and can be found on VUDU, Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. The film has a 100 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. "These kids changed my life and outlook towards disabilities and if in some way this movie can do the same for someone else, any support and awareness we can bring to it will be a win for so many," Watt told Patch reporter Michelle Rotuno-Johnson.
