City Contemplating Senior Snow Plow Changes in July

Several suggestions were made to city council on Tuesday.

While Twinsburg is dealing with humid temperatures and torrential downpours, city officials are thinking ahead to the snowfall.

Laura Seifer, the senior recreation coordinator, proposed several changes to the senior snow plow program during Tuesday's city council meeting.

"You'd be surprised how many seniors have asked about our snow plow program," Seifer said.

She suggested a cutoff for applications, an income requirement and a six-inch minimum.

Seifer wants to stop accepting applications by Nov. 30, not allowing late applicants.

"Most people are familiar with our deadline now," she said.

Last year the program had 343 residents, up from 285 from the year before.

Another change Seifer proposed was an income requirement of less than $60,000 or twice the federal poverty limit, counting every member of the household. Residents would need to fill out an income verification form and pay and application fee that may go from $35 to $50.

"I would like to provide this service for people who really need it," she said, adding some folks may be better off using a private contractor.

Finally, she suggested a six-inch minimum before city workers would plow a driveway, an idea that was politely declined by city council.

Mayor Katherine Procop said legislation for an application deadline and income requirement could be ready by the next meeting in late August.
