Council to Talk Senior Assistance, Internet Cafe Hours

Twinsburg City Council meets tonight at 7 p.m.

Continuing a lifeline program for area seniors is one of the topics of discussion at tonight's city council meeting. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Twinsburg Government Center.

A few weeks ago Laura Siefer, form the parks and recreation department, approached council asking them to consider continuing the Info Line program which will be cut out of the Summit County budget. The move would force seniors to pay privately for the 24-hour emergency assistance device and service.

According to the Twinsburg Bulletin, around 30 senior residents might be interested in participating in the program. If fully funded by the city it would costΒ  $750 per month, or around $9,000 per year.

They city would likely pay the entire cost of the service for residents with an annual income less than $29,000 and would require those with a higher income to pay part of the price.

"It’s not an extenuating amount of money,” Siefert said.

Internet Cafe hours

Another piece of legislation tonight will be the temporary expansion of operating hours for .

Currently the internet gaming parlors are allowed to be open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Tonight's resolution would extend those hours, allowing them to open at 9 a.m. and close at 2 a.m. However, this is only until Aug. 31. After that the hours will revert back to the previous times.
