Twinsburg Chief Chris Noga said Detective Greg Kopniske will fill the role of the second school resource officer position recently re-instated for the 2013-14 school year.

Kopniske is a 23-year member of the Twinsburg Police Department.

In the mid-1990s, he served as a full-time DARE officer for the Twinsburg City Schools. He also helped to develop the school resource officer program during that period. Additionally, Kopniske designed, implemented and has administered the department’s juvenile diversion program since its inception over a decade ago, Noga said.

"Having already served as a DARE officer previously, Greg is the ideal candidate for this position," Noga said. "He has a bachelor’s degree in education from Cleveland State University and before working for the City of Twinsburg, he taught in the Cleveland Public School system, so he has the kind of experience I think is necessary to function as a successful, effective SRO."

Kopniske has served in the Detective Bureau since December 2003. He will move to his new position in August before the school year starts and will work out of Chamberlin Middle School. But like current SRO Ron Fruscella, Kopniske will be available for service to all Twinsburg City Schools, Noga said.

Officer Brian Donato will fill the vacancy in the Detective Bureau created by Kopniske’s new assignment. Donato will transfer from the Patrol Division to the Detective Bureau in June to begin training, said Noga.
