Visual Marking Systems Loves to Print Green
Visual Marking Systems is now the only printer in the region to be certified by the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership

Not only is the city pushing to become more green, some of it's businesses are following suit.
VisualΒ Marking Systems (VMS) announced last week that it received certification from the Sustainable Green PrintingΒ Partnership (SGP) as a Certified Green Printer, according to a press release. VMS joins aΒ short list of printing companies in the US and Canada whoΒ have exhibited a commitment to the principals of sustainability.
A family-owned business on S.R. 82, VMS has been producing high-performance custom design graphics for more than 50 years.

The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership is anΒ independent non-profit organization that provides certification labeling forΒ the graphics communications industry.Β Β The goal of the SGP is to provide a framework for manufacturers in theΒ graphics and printing industryΒ to move beyond simple recycled content materialsΒ and address all aspects of the print manufacturing process.
βSGPΒ certification allows credibility and continuous education for VMS to doΒ business better," CEO Dolf Kahle said in the press release. "Being a member of the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership canΒ open new doors to solutions for VMS, and provide economical, social andΒ environmental improvements, toΒ us and our customers.β

βBy gaining VMS as a certified printer, SGPΒ expands its visibility within the imaging community.Β Not only does VMS serve the retail market space,Β but more importantly, the OEM market,β Marci Kinter, an SGP chairperson, said. βVMSβsΒ reputation within the OEM market provides SGP a foothold into this ever-increasing andΒ important market. We are excited to welcome VMSΒ into the SGP certified community.β
VMS was already working to provide a facility that wasΒ safer, cleaner, and had less of an impact on the environment.Β Β Beginning in April 2011, VMS began seekingΒ certification from SGP.Β Β VMS developed aΒ system over the next eight-to-nine months and submitted its officialΒ application inΒ October 2011.
After the initial application was made, VMS implemented aΒ series of strategies that would ensure the approval of theirΒ certification.Β Β Some changes had alreadyΒ made within the facility.Β Β
AΒ sustainability team had already been established and that team had alreadyΒ identified areas of improvement and implemented tactics to make theΒ manufacturer more sustainable.Β Β ThroughΒ the certification process, VMS was able to take their plant further, and makeΒ the necessary changes to ensure certification.Β Β
An audit was conducted by SGP, and followed up with aΒ secondary Environmental Health and Safety review.Β Β A hygiene center was employed to conduct an air-samplingΒ test using badges that are placed on employees.Β Β AfterΒ these final tests were successfully completed on Jan. 4, 2012, the auditorΒ introduced the application of VMS to the board of review at the SGP.
