Wilcox Primary to Celebrate Veterans at Special Lunch

The school will host "Bring a Veteran to Lunch" on Friday, in honor of Veteran's Day

This Friday, will host its seventh annual  “Bring a Veteran to Lunch Day."  

Students and staff will show their appreciation to many local Veterans with a variety of activities in honor of Veteran’s Day. 

The day will begin with the school-wide Pledge of Allegiance at the flagpole at the front of the building at 8:30 a.m and veterans will lead the ceremony surrounded by 650 preschool, kindergarten and first grade students, each holding a flag provided by the local Twinsburg VFW.  The ceremony will end with a salute and a chorus of "God Bless America."

The school says it expects 120 vets to join students for lunch in the school’s make-shift ‘Mess Hall’ (cafeteria) or in the ‘Canteen’ for desserts and coffee from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 

Each military group will be asked to stand and be recognized as their branch’s song is played, providing examples to the students of what duty and patriotism truly mean. In the canteen, Veteran’s will receive cards and have a chance to enjoy the decorations created by the students, thanking the Veterans for their service.  This will also be a time to share stories and for the groups to connect with each other.

Wilcox Primary School received an award from Ohio Best Service-Learning Project in 2006 for the school’s many efforts in creating a memorable day for the students and the Veterans.  The cooperation of staff, students, parents, PTO, the Twinsburg VFW, and the local community demonstrate the unity in Twinsburg for the development of a caring citizenry in the .
