Historical Society’s ‘Kids Sunday’ is April 7; Jack Miner Celebrated All Month
Month celebrates the life of Jack Miner including a wreath laying April 10.

All eyes are on Jack Miner and the Westlake Historical Society this month.
Jack Miner was born April 10, 1865 in what was Dover Centre and is now Westlake. The Society has plans to mark the occasion.
The Historical Society will lay a wreath at the Jack Miner Ohio Historical Marker to honor his birthday. The public is welcome to attend the ceremony at 12:30 p.m. on April 10 at his birthplace at the corner of Dover Center and Westown Boulevard.

On April 7 the Clague House Museum will be open for Kids Sunday and general tours. Cake and punch to honor Miner’s birthday will also be served. The craft that day will have a "Jack Miner" theme. There is no cost, Lysa Stanton, Westlake Historical Society president, said.
"We give the children the opportunity to 'peek into the past' of the Clague family and the contribution they made to our community," Stanton said. "We can all learn from the past regardless of our age. There are many important benefits to teaching history to children. History gives all of us a sense of identity. It opens up the past in ways that we can begin to understand it. It sheds light on understanding change. Our Kid's Sundays are a way in which we can share with the children how people in our community lived in the past."
All Kid's Sundays are free and run from 2 to 4 p.m. Reservations are suggested but not mandatory.
The Historical Society’s April general at 7 p.m. on April 25 in the Porter Room at Westlake Porter Library will also center on Jack Miner and his life.
“Please take some time in the next few weeks to remember Jack Miner and all that he has done,” Stanton said.
