36 Pounds Of Meth Found During Traffic Stop Outside Bend

An Oregon State trooper's K9 partner detected the meth after Michel Alberto Fuentes Burgos was pulled over for speeding on Highway 20.

BEND, OR — An Oregon State trooper's K9 partner reportedly sniffed out 36 pounds of meth during a traffic stop east of Bend on Highway 20 earlier this week.

Michel Alberto Fuentes Burgos, 28, was taken to Deschutes County Jail after his arrest March 12. He is charged with unlawful manufacture, delivery, and possession of methamphetamine.

Burgos is reportedly from a small area south of Nogales, Mexico. It's unclear what he was doing in Oregon, aside from allegedly transporting a tremendous amount of meth.

An Oregon State Police trooper reportedly pulled Burgos over for speeding near milepost 18, roughly 20 miles east of Bend on Highway 20. The vehicle, a 2018 Nissan Versa bearing a Mexico plate, was reported stolen out of Sonora, Mexico, last month, police said.

During the traffic stop the trooper's K9 reportedly became alerted, causing the trooper to conduct a search — wherein the meth was found.

Burgos' arraignment is scheduled for March 20 in Deschutes County.
