Lake Oswego Considers Plastic Bag Ban, Community Supportive
Lake Oswego is considering banning plastic bags, primarily from supermarkets. The idea is still in the planning stages.

LAKE OSWEGO, OR – If nothing else, Lake Oswego's city government has a sense of humor. Promoting an event last week on the city's plans to ban plastic bags, they put together the graphic above and used the phrase: "Bag to the Future!"
The issue was raised at a city council meeting, which was followed by the community forum. The council is expected to starting considering options for a city ordinance as early as next month.
If it does ban the bags, Lake Oswego will become the second city in Clackamas County to do so. Milwaukee did so last month. Other area cities – such as Portland – have had a ban in effect for years. None of the residents who showed up at the forum appeared to object to a ban. Even some of the city's supermarkets – Albertson's and Safeway – support the plan.
The forum did show that there's a lot to work out including whether it would be just supermarket bags or more.

The Lake Oswego Sustainability Advisory Board is offering a free screening about the dangers of plastic bags, Bag It, on Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. at the Adult Community Center.
The city council will likely hear more on the topic at their Oct. 16 meeting.
