1 Child Killed, 2 Others Hurt In Drunk Driving Crash

Shane Bremer, 34, is being held on manslaughter charges after police determined he was drunk when he crashed his Chevy Tahoe.

MOLALLA, OR — One child was killed and two others were hurt in a car crash southeast of Molalla last Friday. The mother of the children was also taken to hospital while her boyfriend, who was driving the car at the time of crash, was arrested for alleged drunk driving.

Shane Richard Bremer, 34, was taken to Clackamas County Jail. He is being charged with assault, both reckless driving and endangering, driving under the influence of intoxicants, and manslaughter.

Following his arraignment in Clackamas County on Monday, Bremer's first-degree manslaughter charge was reduced to second degree manslaughter, which reduces both the monetary penalty and the likely prison sentence from 20 years for Manslaughter I to 10 years for Manslaughter II.

According to Clackamas County Sheriff's authorities, Bremer was traveling in a 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe along with his girlfriend, Jennifer Sanders, and Sanders' three children, two 6-year-old boys and one 10-year-old girl, sometime around 5 p.m. June 15.

It's unclear how, but at some point Bremer crashed the Tahoe roughly 20 miles from Molalla.

Cell service was reportedly lacking where the crash occurred, so Bremer and Sanders flagged down another motorist and made their way with the kids to a home in the 34000-block of South Dickey Prairie Road, about 4.5 miles southeast of Molalla, where they called police just before 5:30 p.m.

When they arrived, emergency responders determined one of the boys was dead. The girl and the other boy were taken to hospital by ambulance, and Sanders was taken to hospital via LifeFlight.

Bremer, who is reportedly not the father of any of the three kids, went with the two surviving children to hospital, where he was also treated for minor injuries.

Based on information gathered during the initial investigation, Bremer was arrested and taken to Clackamas County Jail later that evening.

Jena Miller, the aunt of Sanders' children, created a GoFundMe campaign to support the family — who isn't working — and help with funeral expenses.

In one day, the campaign raised $2,235 of the $5,000 goal. Click here to make your own donation.

As the sheriff's office continues to investigate the crash, authorities ask for anyone who may have seen Bremer on June 15 to call the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office tip line at 503-723-4949, or submit a tip online.
