Arrested Woman Asks To Check Her Dogs, Grabs Gun, Shoots Officer

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office says a Happy Vallewoman arrested after a traffic stop asked to check on her dogs before being jailed.

OREGON CITY, OR — It seemed like a reasonable request. A woman from Happy Valley was stopped by officers from Gladstone on Monday night. The officers realized that the woman had an active warrant out Texas on theft charges.

The woman, Yvette Garcia, asked her arresting officers if she could quickly stop at her to check on her dogs before they jailed her.

They said ok and drove her home.

The Clackamas County District Attorney says that the woman ran into her home. grabbed a handgun, and came out shooting.

Sgt. Travis Hill was hit in the leg. He and his partner, Officer Clement Yau returned fire, hitting Garcia.

Hill and Garcia were both hospitalized. Garcia is in serious condition. Hill is stable and expected to be fine.

Yau wasn't injured.

Officials have not said if Garcia really has dogs.
