Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Fatal Shooting Investigated

A traffic stop early Monday morning in Happy Valley turned fatal when a deputy shot and killed a man from Hillsboro.

OREGON CITY, OR — A person is dead after being shot by a deputy from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office early Monday morning.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. near SE 145th Avenue and King Road in Happy Valley.

Officials say that the deputies had noted a pickup without plates on SE 145th Avenue. Despite deputies having lights and sirens on, the pickup kept driving.

Officers used spike strips to blow three of the tires on the truck. When they approached the man, he resisted and then pulled a revolver.

At that point, one of the deputies fired, killing the man.

The sheriff's office says that man has been identified as 26-year-old Nathan Honeycutt from Hillsboro.

The deputies have been identified as Jason Bento, Matt Roach, and Sam Tharpe. All three are on administrative leave while the Clackamas County Major Crimes Team and investigators from the District Attorney's Office probe the incident.
