Slain Hit And Run Driver ID'd By OCPD
John Pundyk of Oregon City was killed when he was hit by a passing car on Highway 213 as he fled the scene of a crash at a Chevron station.
OREGON CITY, OR — Police authorities on Wednesday released the name of the man struck and killed on Highway 213 Monday as he fled the scene of a hit and run crash at a Chevron gas station in Oregon City.
Police say John William Pundyk, 37, was killed when he was struck by a passing car in the northbound lanes of Highway 213 just after 3:30 a.m. May 14.
Moments before the fatal collision, Pundyk reportedly crashed his SUV into the gas pumps at the Chevron/Stein Oil Station at 13001 Clackamas River Dr., causing both his crashed vehicle and a gas pump to burst into flames.

Clackamas Fire District firefighters extinguished the dangerous gas station blaze while police responded to the collision on Highway 213, which itself was closed for several hours while officers investigated.
What caused the crash at the Chevron and what inspired Pundyk to run remains under investigation, authorities said.
