Oregon Officers Raise Funds For Special Olympics

Multiple law enforcement agencies have partnered with Plaid Pantry for the inaugural 'Police on the Pantry' charity fundraiser June 1.

OREGON CITY, OR — Plaid Pantries throughout the Portland metro region and Salem will participate this week in a special fundraiser for the Law Enforcement Torch Run benefiting Special Olympics Oregon.

Officers from law enforcement agencies in Portland, Lake Oswego, Hillsboro, Milwaukie, Gresham, Salem and Oregon City will post up on the roofs of Plaid Pantries around the metro area to encourage donations in support of local Special Olympics athletes.

The inaugural "Police on the Pantry" event takes place Friday, June 1, from 7 to 9:30 a.m. and again from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Each customer who makes a minimum $5 donation to the charity will receive a "special thank-you from Plaid Pantry," Clackamas County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Brian Jensen said in a statement.

"It's exciting to partner with Plaid Pantry and the Special Olympics for this new event," Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts said. "We're proud to support the Special Olympics, which helps so many kids and adults with disabilities realize their dreams."

Following the model created by Dunkin' Donuts' "Cops on a Rooftop" fundraiser for individual Special Olympics organizations in the Midwest, "Police on the Pantry" aims to achieve similar success.
