Sen. Wyden Will Host Town Hall In Clackamas This Weekend

Sen. Ron Wyden promised in 1996 to hold annual town halls in all Oregon's 36 counties. Saturday will mark his 903rd since taking office.

CLACKAMAS, OR β€” Sen. Ron Wyden will hold a town hall for Clackamas County residents this weekend at the Oregon National Guard's Camp Withycombe in Clackamas. It will be Wyden's second town hall in Clackamas County this year.

Since promising to hold town halls in each of Oregon's 36 counties when he was elected in 1996, Wyden has reportedly hosted more than 900 conversations in Oregon communities across the state. The visit to 15300 Minuteman Way in Clackamas on Saturday, Aug. 18, will be Wyden's 903rd town hall.

The town hall is set to begin at 12 p.m.

β€œI promised Oregonians when I was elected that I would hold annual open-to-all town halls in each of our state’s 36 counties so anybody could ask me any question in any public meeting,” Wyden said in June. β€œThrowing open the doors of government and hearing from any Oregonian who wants to ask a question is how the Founding Fathers intended American democracy to work."

Wyden's regularly-held local town halls have been noted as opportunities for Oregonians to share their thoughts, hopes, and concerns with the senator, who reportedly answers questions and takes notes on what he hears as oppose to delivering prepared remarks or speeches.

Following the Clackamas County town hall on Saturday, Wyden will head to Salem for another town hall on Sunday. The Aug. 19 town hall for Polk County residents will be held at Harritt Elementary School, 2112 Linwood St. NW in Salem, at 1 p.m.

β€œThese open-to-all town halls in Clackamas and Polk counties take on special importance at a time when there’s so much public interest in all that is happening in Washington, D.C.,” Wyden said.
