Teen In Coma After Crash On Mt. Hood

The Happy Valley teen was pulling onto Highway 26 from the Gov't Camp rest area when he was struck by a truck.

GOVERNMENT CAMP, OR β€” A two-vehicle crash outside Government Camp on Saturday sent two people to hospital with serious injuries, including a teen from Happy Valley who was driving one of the cars. He reportedly remains in a coma at Oregon Health & Science University.

The crash occurred around 4:45 p.m July 7 on Highway 26, at the entrance to the Government Camp rest area. The minor involved was reportedly driving a black 2011 Chrysler 200, which was also occupied by Ya-Chu Matilda Chuang and another minor at the time of the crash.

The Chrysler was turning left onto the eastbound lane of Highway 26 from the rest area when it was struck on the driver's side by a black 2003 Ford F350 extended cab pickup driven by 19-year-old Brightwood resident Bruce Dyal.

Dyal was reportedly uninjured.

Chuang and the minor driver were both taken to OHSU in serious-to-critical condition, police said. The other minor passenger in the Chrysler sustained minor injuries and was treated by emergency responders at the scene of the crash.

All involved were reportedly wearing safety belts when the crash occurred, and neither speed nor alcohol are being investigated as factors in the collision.
