Here are the top three stories today in Salem:

  1. On Tuesday, May 16, the Marion County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) announced the arrest of 20-year-old Aaron Anderson on Apr. 26 in connection to the March fatal shooting of a woman in Salem. On Tuesday the MCSO also released the name of the victim, 19-year-old Jissel Segura from the Woodburn area. Anderson will face charges of murder in the second degree and unlawful use of a weapon. (KGW 8)
  2. Effective Jun. 17, state regulations requiring vaccinations will be lifted and Salem schools will no longer require employees or volunteers to be vaccinated against COVID-19. The requirement may have been deterring some from volunteering and applying for jobs. District spokesman Aaron Harada said, "Anecdotally, we believe it has been a barrier to hiring some staff, but is not something we can quantify as this is not information we collected." (Salem Reporter)
  3. The Oregon Department of Energy's Climate Office is launching a new program that will provide $1.75 million in rebates for installing electric vehicle chargers in Oregon communities. The program will be open from Jun. 13 to Aug. 15, or until funding runs out. Click here to learn more about the program and click here to sign up for upcoming information sessions.
