  1. Salem police are currently searching for the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run that took place in the early morning hours of Saturday, Jun. 17. The police are searching for a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado that is missing the covering to its passenger-side mirror and has damage to the passenger-side headlight, and is requesting the public's help in finding the driver.   2. Some Salem business leaders have voiced opposition to an upcoming vote on taxing workers' paychecks without seeking voter approval. If passed, the proposal would tax Salem workers $42 a month in order to add police and firefighter positions and to continue services for unsheltered people, which would affect worker's earnings above minimum wage. Business leaders in opposition have said that the tax would have an undue burden on workers in the area, while the Chamber of Commerce's CEO said they would like voters to be given a chance to voice their opinions on the tax.   3. The City of Salem's Fleet Team was recently recognized as the 15th-best Fleet Service in the country by the National Association of Fleet Administrators, out of 36,000 Fleet Services nationwide that are considered for the award.
