- On Friday, Jun. 2, hundreds of Salem high school students walked out of classes to protest the school's response to alleged inappropriate sexual behavior by a North Salem High School teacher. According to a group of seniors on the varsity girls' basketball team, Trever Ball was removed as their coach after the allegations last year, but he is still a health services teacher at the school. The protest, which gathered in the parking lot of the district’s Student Services Support Center on South Commercial Street, called for Ball's removal from the school and teaching. (Salem Reporter)
- Oregon Republican representatives and senators, and an Independent, hosted the first meeting of the "Joint Committee on Oversight and Accountability," an unofficial committee to provide "oversight and accountability for an unlawful, unconstitutional and uncompromising Senate president and his Democrat colleagues in the Senate," according to Senate Minority Leader Tim Knopp (R-Bend). But when the public was invited to speak at this meeting, all of them chastised the senators for the walkout and demanded an end to the Senate walkout. (Statesman Journal)
- Many Oregon parents of children with disabilities are fighting to renew the COVID-19 program that paid them to be their child's caregiver. The program ended on May 11 when the pandemic emergency ended. Due to the shortage, many families still cannot find caregivers to hire and now will not be able to give their children the care they need. State Sen. Sara Gelser Blouin introduced Senate Bill 91, which would reinstate the paid family caregiver program. (KGW)
