Bottoms Up: State Officials Hail Wilsonville's Drinking Water

State officials say Wilsonville's drinking water is a cut above the rest.

Representatives from the Oregon Healthy Authority’s Drinking Water Program have announced that the city's public drinking water system, which includes the Willamette River Water Treatment Plant, managed in partnership with Veolia North America, has been identified as an Outstanding Performer.

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) staff made the determination Jan. 5 after conducting an on-site review of the water system this past November. The process takes place every three to five years and evaluates the system's capability of providing safe water to the public. Evaluation covers source water, treatment, storage facilities, distribution system, operation and maintenance procedures, monitoring, and system management.

In addition to verifying the system’s capability and compliance, OHA further determined that Wilsonville’s drinking water system also meets all of the following criteria:

• No Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL), Action Level, or Treatment Technique violations in the last five years;
• No more than one monitoring and reporting violation in the last three years. The one violation must be resolved (results submitted);
• No significant deficiencies or rule violations identified during the current water system survey; and
• Has not had a waterborne disease outbreak attributable to the water system in the last five years.

“OHA’s thorough and independent review confirms that Wilsonville’s water system is being operated and maintained to the highest standards," Public Works Director Delora Kerber said, in a news release. "We’re very proud of being designated again as an Outstanding Performer.”

The City of Wilsonville was previously awarded the title in November 2011.
