WILSONVILLE, OR —Wilsonville junior defensive end Tristan Davis announced on Twitter Monday that he had received a scholarship offer from Colorado. It was Davis' first major college offer.

"After a great conversation with (Colorado defensive coordinator Chris Wilson), I'm very grateful for to receive a offer from the University of Colorado. #GoBuffs," Davis wrote.

Davis told OregonLive that the offer meant a lot to him.

"I am very grateful for the people who have invested their time in me — coaches, trainers, friends," Davis said. "Most importantly my mom, sister and little brother. This offer shows that all the hard work is paying off and that their time wasn't wasted."

It has been a swift rise for the 6-foot-7, 235-pound edge rusher, whose Wildcats are 11-0 and will face Thurston (10-1) in Friday's OSAA 5A football state semifinal at McNary High School.

According to OregonLive, Davis was considered more of a basketball prospect entering the fall. However, that changed when he had three sacks in a season-opening 42-19 win over Lebanon.

Soon, the wider football ball world saw Davis as a potential gridiron prospect.

"Everything kind of changed for me after my first game this year," Davis told the OregonLive. "I started to focus more on football. I gained a lot more confidence in myself. I realized that this is something I could really pursue."

Suddenly, Davis was invited to college recruiting visits by schools like Oregon, Oregon State and Washington. The recruiting website 247Sports said Michigan also has shown interest.

According to 247Sports, Davis is a 3-star prospect, rated the No. 34 edge rusher nationally in the junior class and the No. 3 prospect in Oregon in the Class of 2023.

Andrew Nemec, recruiting reporter for the Oregonian, summed up the buzz around Davis when he tweeted on Sept. 29: "Fastest-rising football prospect in Oregon? Class of 2023 Wilsonville DE @TristanDavis0. Blowing up! Not a secret at this point w/ college football programs or recruiting services. A lot of momentum!

According to Nemec, Davis' highlights on the recruiting website Hudl have impressed college scouts, many of whom probably knew little about Davis just a few months ago.

"Almost overnight, Davis went from an unknown to one of the hottest prospects in the state of Oregon, even if he's still actually just now learning how to play defensive line," Nemec wrote.
