JENKINTOWN, PA — A small, private college located in this eastern Montgomery County community is in receipt of state grant dollars to help with student career readiness preparation.

Manor College was given a $45,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry to help students with career readiness goals and strengthen job search training, according to the office of Pennsylvania State Rep. Ben Sanchez, D-Montgomery.

The state funding will help benefit the Manor College Digital Literacy program, which is comprised of job training, coaching from faculty and career counseling services for students who attend the small college, which was founded by a Ukrainian religious order.

The program at Manor was highlighted by a visit from Gov. Tom Wolf during a stop at the college this past spring.

"Manor College is ecstatic that our students will have this opportunity," Jonathan Peri, the president of Manor College, said in a statement about the grant award.

Peri thanked Sanchez, Gov. Wolf, Pennsylvania Labor & Industry Secretary Jennifer Berrier and others for their help in securing the state funding, which Peri said would help "foster student success."

Sanchez said Manor's Digital Literacy program gives participating students a competitive edge in the job market and helps to build and sharpen skills needed for the workforce.

"This grant will help ensure that local jobseekers can confidently apply digital-literacy skills in both the application process and on the job," Sanchez said in a statement. "It'll also help retain top-notch faculty members who make this program possible and connect people to promising career opportunities."

Patch visited Manor College this summer when state and local officials held an event touting the need for ongoing support in Ukraine for that country's war with Russia.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, the Democratic candidate for governor, as well as Rep. Sanchez, were among the dignitaries who came out to call for continued financial and humanitarian support for the Ukrainian people.
