Abington Failed To Protect High School Students From Sex Assaults: Lawsuit

Jordan Jones, of Horsham, was sentenced for sexually assaulting a teen while serving as an Abington High School resource officer.

EASTERN MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Two former Abington High School students are suing over claims that they were not protected form a former school resource officer who sexually abused them.

Jordan Jones, 29, of Horsham, was sentenced in March to 11-23 months in prison and will also have to serve seven years of probation for admitting to having sex with an Abington High School girl while he was serving as a school resource officer.

A lawsuit filed this week in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court accuses school officials and the Abington Police Department of failing to protect them from Jones, the Bucks County Courier Times reported.

The lawsuit also claims that a high school teacher failed to report suspected abuse allegations that one victim shared with her shortly after Jones began a sexual relationship with her.

"The well-being and safety of our students and staff are of paramount importance, and as such, Abington School District continues to take this matter involving former school resource officer, Jordan Jones, very seriously. We are aware of the pending lawsuit and are not going to comment on active litigation," school officials said in a statement to Patch.

In February 2024, Abington High School officials informed police that a 17-year-old student told a school counselor that she had been in a sexual relationship with Jones since November 2023.

The teen told officials she and Jones had met numerous times at his home in Horsham.

Before his arrest, Jones was a school resource officer at Abington High School as well as a full-time officer with the Abington Township Police Department, court records said.

Authorities said the girl told the counselor she and Jones met numerous times and engaged in sexual activity at his home in Horsham. According to a criminal affidavit filed for Jones, the two had sex about 15 times.

He joined the Abington Police Department in 2017 after earning a degree in criminal justice from Temple University, where he played football, according to the department's annual report in 2017.
