Democrats Maintain Stronghold On Abington Commissioners Board

Democrats defeated a challenge by Republican write-in candidates for seats on the Abington Township Board of Commissioners.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Democrats maintained their stronghold in voting in Tuesday's general election for the Abington Township Board of Commissioners, according to unofficial results.

The 15 commissioners currently include only one Republican. But four Republicans mounted a challenge after getting on the ballot following a write-in campaign during the May primary election.

Meanwhile, the Abington Board of Commissioners race has been marred in Ward 6, where screws have been left on the driveways of supporters of Republican Commissioner candidate Maria DellaMonica.

Democrats won all seven wards for Abington Township Commissioner on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Tax Collector Karen Gold Sanchez defeated GOP challenger Giuseppe Bucci, getting 16,516 votes to 5,792 for Sanchez.

All of the township's precincts reported their vote tallies from Tuesday's election.

Results in Tuesday's general election are unofficial until they are certified by the Montgomery County Board of Elections at a later date.

  • Daniel Donnelly (Republican) — 384 votes

Ward 4

  • Jimmy DiPlacido (Democrat) — 1,068 votes
  • Joe Dunn (Republican) — 355 votes

Ward 6

  • Jeffrey R. Browne (Democrat) — 950 votes
  • Maria DellaMonica (Republican) — 502 votes

Ward 8

  • Lori Henry (Democrat) — 1,181 votes

Ward 10

  • Christine Young-Gertz (Democrat) — 1,103 votes
  • Amy Haviland (Republican) — 437 votes

Ward 12

  • Matthew Vahey (Democrat) — 1,355 votes

Ward 14

  • Lori Schreiber (Democrat) — 1,102 votes
