Candidate Questions
1. How will the middle school approval impact the district?
The approval of the new middle school brings significant benefits to our district in several key areas: increased capacity, improved facilities for modern learning, expanded curriculum opportunities, and enhanced student well-being.
First and foremost, the new school will alleviate overcrowding in our current middle school, creating a more cohesive, comfortable, and safe learning environment. Modern, purpose-built facilities will support updated technology and flexible learning spaces — tools our educators need to meet the evolving needs of students.
Importantly, the new building will be designed with accessibility in mind, ensuring that students, staff, and visitors who require physical or sensory accommodations will have full, equitable access to all areas of the school.
This includes features such as ADA-compliant entrances, elevators, accessible restrooms, and inclusive classroom designs that support all learning styles and needs. These upgrades reflect our district's commitment to creating a truly inclusive environment where every student can thrive.
Additionally, the improved environment will better support students’ mental and emotional well-being. Research consistently shows that well-designed school spaces positively impact focus, engagement, and overall health.
2. What educational background will you bring to the position?
As an engineer, scientist, and team leader for over 20 years, I can provide curriculum support, mentorship opportunities, and collaboration with industry. I make data-driven decisions as well as balance a complex budget and prioritize every day. I lead global cross-functional teams with a servant leader mindset.
I am active in the local community through the Abington Band Association, my church, and broader service through non-profits such as One House at a Time and The Everywhere Project. These transferable skills can aid the board in decisions regarding budgeting and resource allocation, as well as balancing the needs of educators, teachers, and the community.
3. What are the biggest challenges for the school district in the future?
Managing and navigating future budget challenges. The future financial challenges facing school districts in light of potential changes in funding will require a creative, collaborative, and strategic approach.
