Jefferson Abington Hospital Gets 'A' Rating For Protecting Against Patient Harm & Error

The rating comes from the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade program, which is a national distinction recognizing patient safety at hospitals.

ABINGTON, PA — Jefferson Abington Hospital has received some national recognition in the form of a top rating for patient safety.

The hospital has been awarded an 'A' rating in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade program, which is a national distinction recognizing the healthcare facility's achievements in protecting patients from harm and error.

The grading was issued by the Leapfrog Group, which is an independent national watchdog organization that rates hospitals across the country based on more than 30 performance measures, according to Jefferson Abington Hospital.

"It is truly an honor to be recognized for our ongoing commitment to safety," Gerard M. Cleary, Jefferson Abington's chief of staff, chief medical officer and senior vice president, said in a statement. "We are proud of our employees and physicians, who have deployed best practice systems and processes to achieve stellar clinical outcomes for our patients."

According to Jefferson Abington, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only national hospital ratings program based solely on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients.

The grading system is "peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public," according to Jefferson Abington.

Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, said in a statement that the safety grade is a "tremendous achievement, of which this community should be extremely proud.

"I thank the leadership and workforce of Jefferson Abington Hospital for its commitment to prioritizing patients and their safety, especially during these trying times," Binder stated.
