PHILADELPHIA REGION —After contract talks stalled and a 20-year relationship ended last month, Jefferson Health has announced it has reached a new, multi-year commercial insurance agreement with Cigna Insurance.

The agreement —which is retroactively effective to March 15 —ensures that all Jefferson Health hospitals, physician practices, and providers remain in-network for Cigna insurance customers.

Jefferson Health has been an in-network provider for Cigna members for 20 years.

It operates more than two dozen hospitals, several medical practices in the area, urgent care facilities, rehab centers, outpatient care facilities, and more.

During the contract disagreement, Jefferson Health stated that its contract with Cigna didn't reflect the true cost of delivering care.

According to the healthcare provider, Cigna’s reimbursement rates have increased by only 3 percent since 2020, while the Hospital Wage Index has risen 20 percent and CPI-U has increased 21 percent.

"Jefferson Health remains committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate, and accessible care to the patients and families we serve. We look forward to continuing to invest in the health and well-being of our communities throughout this agreement and beyond," its statement concluded.
