Police Crack Down On Illegal Flyers Posted In Jenkintown
Jenkintown Police said the flyers were posted on utility poles. They were notices criticizing the schools superintendent.
JENKINTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The Jenkintown Borough Police Department is warning residents that it is illegal to put up flyers on utility poles.
Jenkintown Police said they have recently received complaints of flyers being posted on utility (telephone) poles throughout the borough.
Police said the flyers were stapled to the poles within the borough.

Police said state and local laws restrict the practice, which is also against the policies of PECO and Verizon since the utility poles are not public property.
The posters that were put up involved criticism of Schools Superintendent Jill Takacs.

Police also said posting flyers is not protected by the First Amendment of the Constitution.
"We want to thank many community members who removed these flyers from the poles," police said.
Police said they will be inspecting that all flyers are removed from the locations within the borough.
Police did say there are places where residents can post flyers or community notifications and announcements. Residents can contact the police department or the borough to find out the appropriate spots.
