Shell Casing Found At Cheltenham Elementary School
Cheltenham school officials and police are investigating a shell casing found in a classroom on Friday.
CHELTENHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — Cheltenham Police are investigating a shell casing found in an elementary school last week.
Cheltenham Schools Superintendent Brian W. Scriven informed the school community in an email that a teacher at Myers Elementary School reported the shell casing being found at 3:59 p.m. on Friday.
Scriven said the school district is investigating how the shell casing came into the classroom and how the students came into contact with it.

Scriven said the teacher told Principal Jason Lytle that two fifth-grade students had discovered an unspent shell casing on the floor of their classroom.
The students approached the teacher in the school yard shortly after dismissal and turned over the shell casing.

The prinicipal and teacher met with the students to make sure they didn't have any other shell casings or "other items of concern," the superintendent said.
The superintendent said that Lytle contacted the parents of the students, the school administration, and the Cheltenham Township Police Department.
Police came to the school later in the day on Friday, took the shell casing, and spoke with one of the students and his parent regarding the seriousness of the matter.
Scriven said updates will be provided once more information becomes available.
