SPS Technologies Issues 1st Statement On Abington Twp. Fire

The company has been a business staple in Abington Township for over 120 years. It's building exploded in a massive fire on Monday.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA —SPS Technologies —a business staple for over 120 years —has issued its first statement since its Highland Avenue building exploded on Monday night, causing a massive fire that continues smoldering more than two days later.

"We regret the significant impact the fire has had on our neighbors, and we will be reaching out to the community in the days and weeks ahead," the company said.

SPS Technologies has established a community hotline for questions, comments, or concerns.

The fire that broke out at the company's 600,00-square-foot fastener manufacturing plant at 301 Highland Ave. "significantly damaged the facility," the company said. "Thankfully, our team members working at the time of the fire are safe and well."

Nearly 70 fire companies in Montgomery County battled the four-alarm fire after an explosion on Monday night.

A shelter-in-place and evacuations were in effect for nearby residents, but those orders were lifted on Wednesday.

"We truly appreciate the efforts of the first responders and other authorities who have worked tirelessly to keep everyone safe and to address the fire, as well as the messages of support from the community that we've been a part of for more than 120 years."
