2 PA Towns Among Money's 2019 'Best Places To Live In America'

PENNSYLVANIA – Two Pennsylvania towns made Money magazine's coveted list of "Best Places To Live In America" for 2019.

The new rankings, released Monday in partnership with Realtor.com, were compiled by looking at more than 160,000 data points, including economic health, cost of living, diversity, public education, crime, and income.

Abington, a community in Montgomery County, and Shadyside, a neighborhood in Pittsburgh, made the list. Abington was 74th and Shadyside came in 94th.

We considered data on each place’s economic health, cost of living, ethnic and economic diversity, public education, income, health and safety, ease of living, and amenities, all provided by research partner Witlytic. We put the greatest weight on economic factors, housing, health and safety, diversity and cost of living. Quality of life, education and local amenities were also critical components.

Reporters also researched each community, interviewed residents and checked out neighborhoods.

The study included only towns with populations of 50,000 or more, but excluded communities with more than double the national crime risk, less than 85 percent of their state's median household income, and a lack of diversity.

That left Money with 1,796 cities from which to pick the top 100.

Abington is a community in Montgomery County that features several small businesses, shopping centers, prominent employers, and parks. Students attend the Abington School District. Public transportation is provided by SEPTA.

Communities in Abinbton Township include Willow Grove, Roslyn, Glenside, Rydal, North Hills, and Meadowbrook.

Shadyside is a neighborhood in Pittsburgh well-known for its eclectic shopping scene and vibrant nightlife.

1. Clarksville, Tennessee
2. Round Rock, Texas
3. Fishers, Indiana
4. Fulton River District, Illinois
5. Country Club Heights, North Carolina
