PA Weather Timeline: Rain, Potential Snow In Store This Week

PENNSYLVANIA - Prepare your umbrellas Pennsylvania, as an extended period of rain and potential snow in the state is expected to linger for some time this week.

Showers have already started in eastern Pennsylvania and will push eastward Tuesday morning, though the first heavy rounds of rain are slated to hit the region around 1 p.m., with overcast skies, possible dense fog and additional periods of rain through Tuesday night, the National Weather Service said. The rain may remain through Wednesday, with drier skies expected on Thursday before additional showers Thursday night into Friday.

Snow may be added to the wintry mix on Thursday and Friday as daily high temperatures hover around the mid-30s to 40 degree mark.

Despite the precipitation, “very light ice accumulation” is slated to be limited to elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses, forecasters said.

As of Tuesday morning, a special weather statement has been issued through Tuesday night 14 Pennsylvania counties due to possible ice accumulation into Wednesday morning. The affected counties are:

A hazardous weather outlook is also in effect for six Pennsylvania counties due to widespread dense fog expected through Tuesday night. The affected counties are:

Tuesday: Rain. High near 43. Southeast wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: Rain. Low around 40. South wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 51. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: A slight chance of rain before 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41. West wind 6 to 9 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. North wind around 7 mph.

Thursday Night: A chance of rain and snow after 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Friday: A chance of rain and snow before 1 p.m., then a chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Friday Night: A chance of rain and snow. Cloudy, with a low around 33. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
