Bensalem High Alum Nick Dean Drafted By Chicago Cubs
Nick Dean was selected in the 19th round of the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft by the Chicago Cubs.

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —Bensalem High School alum Nick Dean has been drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 19th round of the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft.
The star high school pitcher was chosen as the 556th overall pick in the draft after a career at the University of Maryland.
Members of the Bensalem Proud Facebook page congratulated Dean as well as the University of Maryland for his college baseball career with the Maryland Terrapins.

"Windy City bound!" the college posted about the right-handed pitcher.
In high school, Dean helped lead the Bensalem Owls to a district championship his junior year, going 6-2, with a 1.16 ERA and striking out 60 in 48.3 innings. He missed time his senior year while recovering from an injury.

In a May 2021 Patch story, Dean appeared to have found his groove on the mound with the Terps, improving to 2-0 after a third straight quality start.
A year later, he was the ace of the staff, according to a story by the Maryland Baseball Network.
Dean’s best pitch is the changeup, and it’s been that way since high school. At Bensalem High School, he switched from a circle-change grip to a more traditional one, the story stated.
