Bensalem Man Arrested Following Weekend Shooting: Police
Jeffrey Weikel, 52, had his family in his basement while he fired several rounds from an Ak-47 and shotgun, according to police.
BENSALEM, PA — A Bensalem man was taken into custody early Saturday morning following a shooting that saw a Bucks County SWAT team arrive to handle the situation.
Bensalem Police arrived at the 2100 block of Dunksferry Road around 4:18 a.m. on Saturday following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, the suspected shooter, Jeffery Weikel, 52, shot at police, who created a perimeter around the area and began evacuating nearby residents.
Officers had to take cover from the fire while assessing the situation. Weikel, who used an Ak-47 assault rifle and a shotgun during the shooting, hit a nearby home while shooting at police.

The Bucks County South SWAT Team arrived at the scene after residents were evacuated. SWAT negotiators came into contact with Weikel and discovered that his family was in the basement during the shooting. They were able to safely evacuate the family while they continued to speak to Weikel.
After convincing Weikel to surrender, he left the home and was arrested without further incident. He was charged with Aggravated Assault, Discharge of a Firearm into an Occupied Structure, and other related charges and arraigned that same day. 10 of 10 million and mental health evaluation. no prelim yet.

According to Sergeant Glenn Vandergrift, who spoke to Patch regarding this incident, Weikel is being held on 10% of $10 million in bail and is going to undergo a mental health evaluation. No date for a preliminary hearing has been set as of yet.
No one was injured during the shooting.
"This could have been much worse," the Bensalem Township Police Department said in a statement. "We would like to commend the quick response of the Bensalem Township Police, Bucks County South SWAT Team and EMS personnel to help resolve this incident quickly and without any injuries."
