BUCKS COUNTY, PA — Voters cast their ballots in several important local races Tuesday night, including one judicial race with the potential to be history-making.

Democrat Tiffany Michelle Thomas-Smith and Republican Stephen Corr faced off for a seat on the Court of Common Pleas in 2021. If elected, Thomas-Smith would have been the first Black woman to serve as a judge on this Bucks County court.

But one week after the election, with all 306 precincts reporting, Corr was leading the unofficial vote totals. The Bucks County Board of Elections said he had 99,064 votes to Thomas-Smith's 90,520.

Trial lawyer Stephen Corr, practicing in Bucks County since 1992, based his candidacy in part on a desire to address court backlogs due to the pandemic. He is also in favor of greater public access to the courts.

When asked what else he would like voters to know about him, Corr said, "I will not legislate from the bench. Rather, I will apply the law, as written, to the facts before me."

Thomas-Smith, an attorney specializing in family law for 20 years, ran on a platform of "compassionate justice," which she described as applying the facts of the law to circumstances with empathy and understanding, toward just outcomes.

"Voter protection and integrity must be a priority in all aspects of the election process," Thomas-Smith told Patch in her candidate profile. "My platform also includes a commitment to provide greater accessibility to courts for all members of the community. I will work to enhance all efforts to provide safety and security and support the community by supporting labor unions, police, medical professionals and first responders."

Thomas-Smith has been endorsed by Tinicum Together, The Collective's Justice For All Initiative, and the Bucks County Federation of Trade and Industrial Council, among others.

For his part, Corr garnered endorsements from the Fraternal Order of Police and was rated the most "highly recommended" candidate by members of the Bucks County Bar Association.
