Longtime Mayor Wins, 2 GOP Councilwomen Lose In Bensalem

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — While longtime Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo won re-election in Tuesday's general election to continue his over three decades of leadership, the Democratic party has now infiltrated this Republican stronghold township.

According to unofficial results, GOP Councilwoman Stacey Champion and Michelle Benitez lost their re-election bids as three Democratic newcomers will join the Bensalem Township Council.

With longtime Councilman Joseph Pilieri not seeking re-election, Democrats will now control the five-member board when it reorganizes in January.

There are also contested municipal races for auditor and treasurer.

Results in Tuesday's general election by the Bucks County Board of Elections are unofficial until they are certified at a later date.

Bensalem Township Municipal Offices

Mayor: 4-Year Term

• Joseph DiGirolamo (Republican) — 10,058 votes
• Stephanie A.G. Ferrandez (Democrat) — 8,008 votes

Township Council: 4-Year Term (Vote for 3)

• Jesse Sloane (Democrat) — 9,092 votes
• Joseph Wenzel Jr. (Democrat) — 9,067 votes
• Ed Tokmajian (Democrat) — 8,912 votes
• Stacey Champion (Republican) — 8,126 votes
• Michelle Benitez (Republican) — 7,997 votes
• Will Walker (Republican) — 7,882 votes

Auditor: 6-Year Term (Vote for 1)

• Zachary Winters (Democrat) — 9,197 votes
• J. Patel (Republican) — 8,479 votes

Treasurer: 4-Year Term (Vote for 1)

• Mike Brill (Republican) — 9,322 votes
• Santos M. Ramos (Democrat) — 8,488 votes
