The pitbull attacked a small dog being walked around the Red Roof Inn off of Street Road around midnight, according to police.

BENSALEM, PA — A pitbull was shot and killed outside of the Red Roof Inn off of Street Road around midnight after it attacked a small dog that was being walked by its owner.

According to Sergeant Glenn Vandergrift, who spoke to Patch regarding this incident, a man staying at the hotel was walking his pitbull around the building near midnight without a leash. Another person staying at the inn was leaving his room with his small, leashed dog at the time of the incident.

The pitbull chases the small dog after running around the building, eventually grabbing it in its jaws. The pitbull's owner was unable to control the dog and no attempts to stop the attack worked.

The owner of the small dog, who had a license to carry, took out his gun and fired a shot at the ground in an attempt to stop the pitbull. When this did not deter him, the man shot again at the pitbull's chest, which killed him.

"We are confirming that there was a discharging of a firearm at the Red Roof Inn," Vandergrift said.
